1. How much does it cost?
While learning to fly takes commitment, both personal and financial, it’s probably a lot less expensive than you think. With Rebel Aviation’s pay as you go or block time purchase system, learning to fly is affordable to most everyone. The average cost to achieve a private pilot’s license is approximately $10,000.00. Not bad when you consider it’s spread out
over several months to a year.

2. How long will it take me to learn to fly?
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires a minimum of 40 hours. In actuality, most people complete the training in 50 to 80 hours.

3. Do I have to attend “Ground School” before I begin to fly?
No. “Ground school” and flight training are separate programs and may be taken at the same time, or one following the other. However, our experience shows that students benefit from a tandem approach — ground school at the same time as flight training, or flight training immediately following ground school.

4. What is required to obtain a Pilot License?
You must be at least 16 years old in order to solo, 17 years old for a Private License and 18 years old for a Commercial License. You must be healthy enough to pass a 3rd Class medical exam. There are several doctors in your area that can provide this service. Ask a Rebel about the medical process as soon as possible.

5. Is it difficult to fly an airplane?
Not really, but to be really good, a certain amount of finesse is needed. From the beginning you will do most of the actual flying (handling the controls of the aircraft). Flying is the easy part – it’s landing that’s hard!

6. When can I begin? (Is summer a better time than winter?)
Immediately. Each season has it’s own advantages. Start times should be based upon ground school availability if that route is chosen. Flying at least 2-3 times per week is recommended to prevent yourself from getting “rusty”.

7. Is flying safe?
Well built and well-maintained aircraft flown by a competent and prudent pilot makes flying as safe or safer than many other forms of transportation.

8. When can I solo?
You will probably get to make your first solo flight after about 10 – 15 hours of training. This decision will be made by your instructor.  You will usually know when you are ready.

9. Are there any tests?
There is a written test to reflect your general knowledge of the plane you are flying prior to your first solo flight.  Before you take the FAA exam you must past a ground school exam to show that you are ready for the FAA exam. This exam will earn you an endorsement to take the FAA exam. The last written exam is the FAA exam consisting of 60 multiple choice questions.

Once the written exams are completed and you are ready, the ‘Flight Test’ takes place during an actual flight and involves an ‘Oral’ question and answer session and a test of your flying proficiency. This test is conducted by a FAA designated Flight Test Examiner.

10. How will I know if this is something that I really want to do?
Rebel Aviation offers the beginning pilot an introductory ride called an ‘Intro-Flight’ or Discovery Flight for $125. The total flight time will usually be about 30 minutes. During this flight, you are introduced to an instructor, our aircraft, and a taste of flying.  Careful… flying is “highly” addictive.
